Opmerkingen

The Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia had a troubled institutional life — Congress ordered its liquidation in 1894 following years of controversy over its note-issuing monopoly, yet emission continued through the transition period as the government struggled to manage a collapsing monetary system. By 1900, Colombia was deep in the War of the Thousand Days, the brutal civil conflict between Liberal and Conservative factions that would eventually claim over 100,000 lives. Notes from this period circulated under severe inflationary pressure.

Printing at the Litografía Nacional in Bogotá meant production never left the country — unusual given that most Colombian issuers of the period relied on foreign printers. Quality suffered accordingly.
