| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse is dominated by two circular vignettes: at left, the Colombian coat of arms within a fine-line guilloche border, and at right, a portrait of Simón Bolívar in military uniform. The bank title 'Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia' runs across the top, with the denomination 'UN PESO' set in bold letterpress at centre, above the inscription 'EN MONEDA CORRIENTE'. The date 'Bogotá Enero 2 de 1893' appears at the lower centre, flanked by manuscript signatures of the Director General and the Consejo de Emisión, with serial number and series letter printed in red at upper left and right. |

The Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia had a turbulent institutional life — Congress abolished it in 1894, just a year after this note's issue date, following persistent accusations that the bank was being used to finance government deficits through unchecked emission. This note sits near the end of that run.
ABNC produced the series from New York, as they did for a significant portion of Latin American paper at the time. Colombian notes of this period are frequently encountered with punch cancellations or manuscript cancels, applied during demonetization — clean uncancelled survivors are the exception.
