Corrientes was one of the last Argentine provinces still issuing its own paper currency well into the 1880s, long after the national government had been pushing toward monetary unification. This note dates from that stubborn provincial holdout period — Corrientes had a history of issuing its own bills stretching back decades, often out of fiscal necessity rather than monetary ambition.
Bradbury Wilkinson's involvement is unsurprising for the period; the New Malden firm handled a significant share of Latin American provincial and quasi-official paper through the second half of the nineteenth century.
