Opmerkingen

Banco de la Unión was one of several private Colombian banks chartered under the 1880 banking law, which permitted regional institutions to issue their own currency — a fragmented system that persisted until the Banco de la República was established in 1923. The American Bank Note Company handled most of the prestige printing work for Colombian private banks during this period, producing notes for competing institutions that were sometimes nearly identical in format, differentiated mainly by overprint and color.

The series ran only three years before Colombia's increasingly unstable monetary politics began squeezing the smaller regional issuers.
