| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse displays the national arms of Honduras at center: a triangular device enclosing a volcanic landscape with a rising sun and fortified towers, surrounded by a circular legend reading REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS. The central armorial device is framed by an ornate wreath composed of oak and laurel branches tied at the base, flanked by crossed flags and a liberty cap atop a staff. The denomination UN PESO and weight specification 25 GMOS appear in the lower portion of the field, with the fineness 0.900 inscribed along the left margin and the date to the right. The engraver's signature FRENER is visible in the lower central field. The design reflects the Neo-Classical engraving style of the late nineteenth century. |

Honduras adopted the peso system following Central American monetary reforms of the 1870s, and this long-running type was struck at several foreign mints — including those in Paris and Birmingham — because Honduras lacked domestic minting capacity of any consequence. The Birmingham issues are distinguishable by mint mark and tend to show sharper relief owing to the superior die-cutting technology available at the Heaton Mint.
The series ended as Honduras transitioned to the lempira system in the early twentieth century, a reform tied directly to chronic debt restructuring with foreign creditors rather than any organic monetary overhaul.
