Obverse description The Uruguayan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicted as an oval shield quartered with a hilltop, an ox, and a horse, surmounted by a radiant sun rising above the escutcheon. The arms are flanked by crossed flags and a cannon on the left and a laurel branch on the right, with the whole composition tied at the base by a ribbon bow. A five-pointed star appears in the lower exergue below the shield. The circular legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY runs along the periphery in raised Latin lettering, interrupted by a fine beaded border.
