Opmerkingen

Banco del Ecuador was established in Guayaquil in 1868 as the country's first private bank of issue, and this 1874 note belongs to its earliest printing series — placed with the American Bank Note Company at a time when virtually every Latin American issuer of any ambition sent its work to New York. ABNC dominated the market so thoroughly that regional competitors barely existed.

The P#142B designation distinguishes it from closely related varieties in the same series, differences that typically come down to signature combinations or minor plate alterations rather than separate printings. Worth confirming against the signature panel before cataloging further.
