正面描述 Green intaglio-printed note with a portrait vignette at left of a young woman in formal dress with an elaborate headdress, set within an ornate oval frame with guilloche border work. At upper centre, the bank title 'El Banco Anglo-Costa-Ricense' is rendered in bold decorative lettering, flanked by the serial number 'Nº 02081' repeated twice, with a small landscape vignette at upper right. The central text panel carries the promise-to-pay clause in Spanish, with the date and place of issue 'San José de Costa Rica, 1º de Enero de 1864' below, accompanied by a manuscript signature above the printed designation 'El Administrador'; the denomination 'UN PESO' appears in cartouches at top and bottom.

备注

The Banco Anglo-Costa-Ricense was one of three private banks authorized to issue currency in Costa Rica during the second half of the nineteenth century, operating under a government concession rather than as a central bank. This 1864 issue predates the formal banking legislation of 1871, placing it among the earliest circulating private banknotes in the country.

Local printing in San José at this period was technically limited, and early Costa Rican private bank issues frequently show the constraints of that — uneven impression, variable ink saturation, and paper sourced through Atlantic trade routes rather than purpose-made banknote stock. Worth examining the back carefully for any manuscript authorization, which was common practice for the earliest issues of this series.
