Obverse description The national coat of arms of Nueva Granada occupies the central field, depicting a shield surmounted by a condor with spread wings. The shield bears a pomegranate fruit in the upper half and a sailing vessel over a sea in the lower half, flanked by cornucopiae on either side. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS DE NUEVA GRANADA runs along the upper periphery, with the date 1861 displayed in the lower exergue flanked by small dots. The coin is struck within a fine dentilated border.

Reverse description A laurel and oak wreath frames the central denomination legend UN PESO, with the fineness LEI 0,900 inscribed below the wreath. A caduceus appears on each side of the wreath, serving as decorative and symbolic elements. The mint name BOGOTA is inscribed along the upper arc of the legend. The entire design is contained within a dentilated border.
