| Obverse description | Central device depicts the arms of the Confederación Granadina: a quartered shield bearing a pomegranate, a cornucopia, and a sailing vessel in the lower quarters, surmounted by an Andean condor with wings spread atop a ribbon scroll. The shield is flanked by two national flags draped at either side. The legend CONFEDERACION GRANADINA arcs along the upper periphery, with the motto LIBERTAD I ORDEN on the scroll above the shield, and the date 1860 appearing in the lower field between two small ornamental stops. |

The Confederación Granadina existed for barely a decade, a loose federal experiment that replaced Nueva Granada in 1858 and was itself dissolved when the Rionegro Constitution created the United States of Colombia in 1863. This peso was struck at Bogotá during the political turbulence preceding the 1860–1862 civil war, in which General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera led rebel forces against the central government — the very authority that authorized these coins.
