New Granada's short-lived republican coinage was minted under chronic fiscal instability, with the Bogotá mint operating fitfully through the mid-1850s as the country lurched toward the federalist restructuring that would dissolve the republic entirely in 1858 — replaced by the Granadine Confederation. This issue was effectively a transitional relic from the moment it left the dies.
Hernández documents two distinct varieties across this emission, likely reflecting successive assayer changes at Bogotá rather than any policy shift.
