By 1942, Chile's Banco Central had been printing its own currency domestically at the Casa de Moneda for over a decade — a deliberate policy shift away from the foreign contract printers, primarily British firms, that had dominated Latin American note production through the 1920s. This particular peso denomination carried the parallel designation of 1/10 Condor, a holdover from the gold-standard Condor unit that Chile had legally abandoned in 1932 during the peso's forced depreciation. The dual nomenclature lingered on notes long after the Condor had ceased to have any practical monetary meaning.
