Aanvullende informatie

Yauco is one of a series of Puerto Rican municipal coins issued under a local commemorative program beginning in the mid-2000s, each honoring a distinct municipality of the island. Yauco, historically the center of Puerto Rican coffee production, supplied beans to the Vatican and to European royal courts in the 19th century — a reputation that earned the town the nickname "La Ciudad del Café."

The .900 silver specification deliberately mirrors the fineness of the original Spanish colonial peseta, a nod to the monetary system that governed Puerto Rico before the 1898 cession to the United States ended Spanish currency circulation on the island.
