Vimbodí is a small municipality in Conca de Barberà, Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency — paper moneda local — to compensate for the near-total disappearance of coins from circulation after 1936. The Republican government's inability to supply small change forced municipalities down to the village level to improvise their own solutions, with wildly inconsistent results in quality and longevity.

Imprenta Mestres in nearby Montblanc handled production for several local councils in the comarca, which gives notes from this area a degree of typographic consistency unusual among wartime municipals. Most of these issues were rendered worthless within two years of printing.
