Gallardo Gómez, Electra de la Fuensanta y San Miguel Arcángel, S. A. por tanto solo tienen valor dentro del Término Municipal de Villanueva del Arzobispo. Pueden ser canjeables por Billetes del Banco de España en cualquiera de las oficinas emisoras o bien en los Banco Español de Crédito o Central de la plaza en los cuales queda hecho el depósito del importe total de la emisión. Villanueva del Arzobispo is a small municipality in Jaén province, Andalusia, and this 1937 peseta belongs to the enormous category of Spanish Civil War local emergency currency — the so-called "billetes locales" or "moneda de guerra" — issued when the Republican government's authority over coin supply collapsed and towns were left to fend for themselves. Hundreds of municipalities did exactly this, producing notes of wildly varying quality and authorization.
The Gari Monastery reference system remains the primary catalogue for these issues, though coverage is uneven and some entries rely on single known specimens.
