Villa de Don Fadrique is a small municipality in the Toledo province of Castile-La Mancha. Notes like this one were emergency local issues — billetes de necesidad — produced by municipal councils during the Spanish Civil War when the Republic's centralized banking system could not guarantee coin or currency supply to small towns. The Consejo Municipal effectively became its own monetary authority out of necessity, not design.

The Gari Montaner catalog remains the primary reference for these provincial Spanish emergency issues, and the 1589-C designation suggests at least minor variety differentiation within the Don Fadrique municipal series.
