Vilanova del Vallès is a small municipality in the Vallès Oriental comarca northeast of Barcelona. Like hundreds of Catalan towns, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after metallic coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936 — hoarded, melted, or simply stripped from the supply chain by wartime chaos. These local issues, generically catalogued under the broader Catalan paper money corpus, were printed in very small quantities and distributed within a hyper-local economy.
The C.A.M. imprint places this among a cluster of municipally commissioned notes produced through Barcelona's administrative printing infrastructure rather than private commercial presses.
