Viator is a small municipality in Almería province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency paper fractional currency when coinage vanished from circulation almost overnight in the summer of 1936. The Republican government's decree authorizing municipal emergency issues gave legal cover to these notes, but the practical reality was that each council printed what it could afford and what local commerce would accept — which varied enormously village to village.
The Gari Montaner reference is unassigned, suggesting this piece was either unknown to the cataloger or submitted too late for inclusion. That alone marks it as genuinely scarce documentation of a minor issuer.
