Puerto Rico has never operated as an independent monetary authority — it issues no legal tender of its own. This piece is a modern fantasy or commemorative strike, produced outside any government mandate, using the "Vega Alta" municipal designation to evoke regional identity. Vega Alta is a small municipality on Puerto Rico's northern coast, historically tied to sugarcane agriculture during the island's plantation economy.
The peseta denomination itself has no modern Puerto Rican legal history; the island moved under U.S. currency jurisdiction following 1898.
