Hundreds of municipalities printed their own, many through local print shops with no experience producing currency, which accounts for the thick card stock and the reliance on an official stamp as the sole security feature. Imprenta Popular in Bellpuig served several nearby municipalities, which means the same press produced notes for competing local issuers within the same comarca.
