Vallbona d'Anoia is a small municipality in the Anoia comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly sized towns during the Spanish Civil War, its local council issued emergency paper fractional currency in 1937 after metallic coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation. The Republican government had authorized municipal bodies to plug the gap, and the result was an explosion of highly localized emissions — some professionally printed, many produced on whatever card stock the town hall could source.
Turró documents this issue as #2639, placing it firmly within that chaotic municipal series. The thick card construction was typical of smaller councils working without access to proper security printers.
