Torremanzanas is a small mountain village in the Alicante province, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency in 1937 when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply unavailable. These consejos municipales notes were purely local instruments, often redeemable only within the issuing town, and had no validity beyond the next village.
The Gari Montllor catalog remains the primary reference for these Valencian Community issues. Small-town emissions like this one were produced in tiny quantities and rarely survived the war's end in usable condition.
