Tamarite de Litera is a small Aragonese town that spent most of the Civil War on the Nationalist-Republican front line, changing hands before stabilizing under Republican control. Like dozens of Catalan and Aragonese municipalities in 1937, the ayuntamiento resorted to printing its own fractional currency after the Republican government's inability to supply sufficient small coinage created a genuine transactional crisis. The Seix i Barral imprint is notable — primarily a prestigious Barcelona book and literary publisher, the firm took on municipal emergency currency work during this period as commercial printing contracts collapsed.
