Tabernas issued its own emergency small change notes during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republic's fractional coinage disappeared almost immediately into hoarding and melting. Municipal governments across Andalusia filled the vacuum themselves, with no central authorization and wildly inconsistent quality. The Ayuntamiento de Tabernas — a small desert town in Almería province — was among hundreds of local bodies that printed their own peseta fractions simply to keep commerce moving at the market level.
Gari Montllor catalogues this as type B, implying at least two distinct emissions from the same issuer. Local war-issue notes from municipalities this small rarely survived in any quantity.
