Soses is a small municipality in the Segrià comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns it issued its own fractional paper currency during the Civil War after the Republican government's decree of June 1937 effectively endorsed local emergency emissions to address the acute shortage of small change. The Ajuntament de Soses produced this 1 Peseta note under that framework — a hyperlocal instrument, theoretically valid only within the municipality's own commerce.
Turró catalogues over 2,400 such emissions. That this one carries number 2406 places it among the more obscure entries in that corpus.
