One of hundreds of locally-issued emergency notes — moneda local — produced across Republican Spain after the July 1936 uprising fractured normal commerce and left small municipalities without workable small change. The issuer here was not a municipal council but a joint CNT-UGT collectivized federation, meaning the note functioned as scrip within a partially anarcho-syndicalist economic structure rather than as conventional municipal currency. Gràfiques J. Nolla was a local printer, almost certainly pressed into service out of practical necessity rather than any specialist capacity in security printing.
Sardañola and Ripollet are adjacent towns in the Vallès Occidental, and their combined federation reflects the territorial consolidation common among Catalan collectives during 1936–37.
