San Carlos del Valle is a small municipality in Ciudad Real province, Castilla-La Mancha, and its wartime local issue is one of hundreds of emergency necessity notes produced during the Spanish Civil War when the Republican government's decree of 1936 authorized municipal councils to print their own fractional currency to combat the acute shortage of small coin.
