Salsadella is a small municipality in Castellón province, and like hundreds of similar Valencian townships during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency in 1937 when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation. These municipal pieces — collectively catalogued under the broader Gari Monetari series — were produced locally with whatever printing resources were available, which accounts for the thick card stock construction. The issuing authority had no banking infrastructure; the Consejo Municipal was simply filling a transactional void.

Survival rates for Salsadella emisiones are low. The town's population was under a thousand, meaning total print runs were small and few pieces entered wide circulation.
