1 Peseta Rus

Rus is a small municipality in Jaén province, Castilla-La Mancha, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it resorted to locally issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's coinage vanished from circulation almost immediately in 1936. These municipal emissions — known collectively as "moneda local" or "papel moneda de guerra" — were produced under wildly varying conditions, often on whatever card stock or paper was available to the local council.

The thick card composition here is characteristic of ayuntamiento issues that lacked access to proper banknote paper. Many such pieces were hand-stamped, rubber-printed, or locally typeset in very small runs, making genuine survivors genuinely uncommon — not because they were hoarded, but because they were simply made to be used and discarded.
