| Opmerkingen |
Rupit is a tiny medieval village in the Osona comarca of Catalonia, and its wartime peseta notes are among the more striking examples of municipal emergency currency produced during the Civil War. By 1936–37, the collapse of small-denomination coinage — hoarded, melted, or simply absent — had forced hundreds of Catalan municipalities to print their own paper. Rupit, with a population then numbering in the hundreds, was no exception.
The printer, C.A.M. in Barcelona, handled a significant volume of these local emissions, which accounts for a certain consistency of production quality across otherwise wildly varied issuing bodies. Turró catalogues this as #2230.
