Comments

Rocafort de Queralt is a small municipality in the Conca de Barberà comarca of Catalonia, with a population that barely exceeded a few hundred during the Civil War years. Like dozens of similarly sized Catalan towns, the Consell Municipal issued its own paper money in 1937 after the collapse of reliable coin supply — hoarding and metal requisitions for the war effort had stripped small denominations from everyday commerce almost entirely.

Imprenta Sugrañes of Tarragona produced notes for numerous local Catalan issuers during this period, which means the printing quality here is more consistent than many comparable emergency emissions from smaller or improvised presses.
