Ripollet is a small industrial town in the Vallès Occidental comarca, just north of Barcelona. During the Civil War, hundreds of Catalan municipalities — many of them tiny — issued their own paper emergency currency when Republican-zone coin shortages became acute after 1936. These ajuntament-issued notes, collectively known as "moneda local," were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya and were legally valid only within the issuing municipality's limits, which in Ripollet's case meant a few streets and factories.
Imprenta El Secretariat Català produced notes for numerous municipalities during this period, which means the same press quality and paper stock appears across dozens of different Turró catalogue entries. Distinguishing features between towns come down to the overprinted text, not any meaningful difference in manufacture.
