Puebla de Don Fadrique is a small municipality in the Granada province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it resorted to locally issued paper money during the Civil War after the Republic's central banking system failed to supply adequate small-denomination coinage. These ayuntamiento-issued cartones and billets were stopgap instruments, often printed on whatever stock was available, authorized by local decree rather than any national banking authority.
The Garrido-Mora reference places this among the more obscure provincial emissions — documentation is thin, and surviving examples are correspondingly rare.
