| Opmerkingen |
Port de la Selva is a small fishing village on the Costa Brava, and during the Civil War its municipal government — like hundreds of other Catalan ajuntaments — was forced to print its own fractional currency after the withdrawal and hoarding of metallic coin left local commerce effectively paralyzed. The Republican central government had authorized emergency municipal issues, but practical guidance and quality materials were scarce, which is why so many of these 1937 notes were printed by small regional shops like Imprenta Trayter in nearby Figueres rather than any centralized facility.
Turró catalogs over two thousand distinct Catalan municipal issues from this period. The sheer volume makes condition and provenance more consequential than for most modern issues — many printings were tiny, and surviving examples often passed through only a few months of actual use before Franco's forces consolidated the region in early 1939.
