Opmerkingen

Porrera is a small wine-producing municipality in the Priorat comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Spanish Republican localities, it issued its own emergency paper money during the Civil War when small coin effectively vanished from circulation. These municipal notes — collectively known as paper moneda local — were produced under a 1936 decree from the Generalitat de Catalunya authorizing local councils to cover the shortage. Porrera's issue is among the more obscure, reflecting the village's tiny population and limited economic activity.

Thick card stock was chosen precisely because small-denomination scrip needed to survive rough daily handling in markets and taverns. Few examples did.
