El Pont d'Armentera is a small municipality in the Alt Camp comarca of Tarragona, and this note is a product of the extraordinary monetary fragmentation that gripped Republican Catalonia during the Civil War. The Generalitat's decree of June 1937 formally authorized local councils to issue their own emergency currency — the *moneda local* — to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metallic coinage hoarded or melted down in the war's early years.

Imprenta Solé of Tarragona printed for numerous municipalities across the province, often recycling similar layouts with only the issuing authority changed. The Turró catalogue remains the essential reference for distinguishing genuine local issues from the sea of near-identical provincial pieces.
