Pobla de Segur is a small municipality in the Pallars Jussà comarca of Lleida, and its decision to issue local currency in 1937 was entirely practical: the Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small-denomination coinage almost from the start of the Civil War, and hundreds of Catalan towns responded by printing their own notes under authority granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya. This note is one of that wave.
Imprenta El Secretariat Català in Barcelona handled a significant volume of these municipal emissions, which accounts for the relatively clean production quality typical of their output — uncommon among wartime local issues printed under worse conditions elsewhere in the zone.
The Turró catalogue remains the definitive reference for Civil War Catalan paper money, and 1921 places this note well into the mid-range of that enormous corpus.
