Parras de Castellote is a small municipality in the Maestrazgo district of Teruel, Aragon — precisely the kind of isolated rural township that issued emergency fractional paper during the Spanish Civil War when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The Consejo Municipal issues of 1937 were a direct response to that shortage, not any formal monetary authority. Many were produced locally with minimal printing infrastructure, rubber-stamped rather than engraved, and circulated only within the immediate locality.
The Gari Mon cataloguing of these Aragonese municipal emissions remains the primary reference, though survival rates for the smaller village issues are genuinely poor — most were redeemed, destroyed, or simply disintegrated.
