Palau Sabardera is a small municipality in the Alt Empordà comarca of Catalonia, and during the Civil War its agricultural cooperative — like dozens of similar sindicats across Republican-held territory — issued emergency local currency when the central government's coinage disappeared from circulation almost entirely. The Republican decree of June 1937 attempted to formalize and eventually suppress these emissions, but many small issuers had already been printing and circulating their own notes for months before Madrid or Barcelona noticed.
The Gari catalogue documents this as the sole known emission from this sindicat. Small-run local issues from agricultural cooperatives in the Alt Empordà are among the more difficult Catalan Civil War notes to locate today.
