Opmerkingen

Orihuela, a city in Alicante province, was one of dozens of Republican municipalities forced to print emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the hoarding and melting of coins left daily commerce paralysed. The Consejo Municipal issues from this period were purely transactional stopgaps — locally authorised, locally printed, and seldom accepted beyond the issuing town's borders.

The Gari Mon catalogue documents this specific emission under #1044-E, suggesting variant distinctions within the Orihuela series. These local Republican notes were officially invalidated after the Nationalist victory, which drove systematic destruction. Survivors are almost entirely from collector sources rather than circulation.
