Orba is a small municipality in the Marina Alta comarca of Valencia, and like hundreds of similar communities across the Republican zone, its local council issued emergency fractional currency in 1937 after silver and bronze coinage disappeared from circulation almost entirely. These municipally-issued pieces — broadly catalogued under the Spanish Civil War local issues — were legal only within the issuing municipality, a restriction that mattered very little in practice when the nearest town might be kilometers of rough road away.
The Gari Mon reference places this firmly in the established specialist literature for Valencian Civil War paper. Survival rates for Orba issues are low; the town's population was small, print runs were accordingly modest, and most circulated hard until they disintegrated.
