Concentric lathe-work rings flank the central oval on either side, and the whole composition is set within a rectangular guilloche border with wood-grain underprint filling the outer register. |

Nonaspe is a village in Aragon — population in the hundreds even today — and its municipal council issued this peseta during the Spanish Civil War under the decentralized emergency currency arrangements that proliferated across Republican-held territory from 1936 onward. The Consejo Municipal had no banking infrastructure, no engraver, and no secure paper supply. What it had was access to Gràfiques Launes in nearby Mora d'Ebre, a commercial printer that produced local scrip for several municipalities along the Ebro valley during this period.
Mora d'Ebre itself would be the site of fierce fighting in 1938, and much of what the region produced in this period — paper, records, currency — did not survive.
