Mont-ros is a tiny municipality in the Pallars Jussà comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of other Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional emergency currency when the Republican government's small change supply collapsed in 1936–37. These local emissions — collectively catalogued in the Turró reference — were produced under a decree that effectively licensed municipal councils to print what they needed. The results ranged from professionally typeset cards to handwritten slips.
A municipality this small would have issued in very limited quantities, with almost no redundancy in surviving stock.
