Moià is a small town in the Bages comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency — *moneda local* — to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from circulation after 1936. The Republican government's failure to supply adequate small change pushed this responsibility down to the municipal level, producing an extraordinarily varied corpus of local issues across the loyalist zone.
Turró catalogues this as #1504. The C.A.M. printer in Barcelona handled a considerable volume of these municipal commissions during the conflict, which accounts for the relatively professional typographic execution compared to notes run off on local jobbing presses.
