| Opmerkingen |
Miravet is a small municipality in Tarragona province, and like hundreds of Catalan and other Republican-zone towns during the Civil War, its municipal council issued emergency paper money when the central government's currency supply collapsed and fractional coinage vanished from circulation. These local issues — known collectively as the "moneda local" or "paper moneda" — were authorized under a 1936 decree from the Generalitat de Catalunya, which gave municipal councils emergency powers to issue scrip up to certain denominations.
Miravet's series is among the more obscure provincial issues. Survival rates for single-municipality Catalan wartime scrip are unpredictable — high print runs were not always the rule, and many were redeemed and destroyed when Nationalist forces took the region in early 1939.
