| Opmerkingen |
Mazarrón was a mining town in Murcia whose municipal council — like hundreds of others across Republican Spain — was forced to print its own small-denomination paper after the Civil War disrupted the supply of coin. The centimos and peseta fractions that greased daily commerce simply vanished from circulation by 1936, hoarded or melted, and Madrid had neither the capacity nor the logistics to plug the gap locally. Municipal councils filled the void themselves, often printing on whatever stock was available.
The Gari Monetary catalog classifies this under reference 903-C, implying multiple emission variants from Mazarrón — unusual for a town of this size, and worth verifying against the specific serial or stamp when cataloging individual examples.
