| Opmerkingen |
Mateo de las Fuentes is a small municipality in the province of Cuenca, Castile–La Mancha. This note was issued by its local council during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican zone faced an acute shortage of small-denomination coinage — silver and copper had been hoarded or melted, and the central government could not supply enough fractional currency to keep local commerce moving. Hundreds of Spanish municipalities responded by printing their own emergency paper, ranging from crude rubber-stamped card to reasonably well-produced typeset notes.
The Gari catalogue records only a handful of distinct types from this issuer, making survival rates difficult to establish with confidence.
