1 Peseta Maçanet de la Selva

Maçanet de la Selva is a small municipality in the Girona province of Catalonia, and like hundreds of Catalan towns in 1937, its ajuntament resorted to issuing its own fractional paper currency when the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply overwhelmed by wartime disruption. These hyper-local emissions were technically authorized under a June 1937 Generalitat decree but had no validity beyond the issuing municipality's boundaries.

Turró catalogs dozens of Girona-area issues from this period, most sharing the same improvised quality. Very few saw extended circulation before the Nationalist advance through Catalonia in early 1939 rendered them worthless overnight.
