Llardecans is a small agricultural municipality in the Segrià comarca of Lleida, and this note belongs to the extraordinary proliferation of emergency municipal scrip issued across Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War. When the Republican government's coin supply collapsed under wartime disruption, hundreds of local councils — many of them tiny — commissioned their own paper substitutes, often from whatever local printer was available. Imprenta Sol in Lleida served several such ayuntamientos in the region.
The official stamp was the primary — arguably the only — anti-counterfeiting measure, a telling indicator of how improvised these emissions were.
