Laspaúles is a tiny municipality in the Pyrenean comarca of Ribagorza, Huesca province. This 1 Peseta note is a Civil War-era local emergency emission — one of hundreds of such pieces issued by Spanish town councils between 1936 and 1939 when the Republic's central coin supply collapsed and small change simply vanished from circulation. Municipal councils across Aragon improvised with whatever card stock and rubber stamps were available.
The Gari Mon catalogue reference places it firmly within the documented series, but surviving examples are scarce simply because these pieces were printed in small quantities for strictly local use and rarely left the village.
